Full-sized 108-key aluminum DIY Kit.

MonsGeek M5 DIY Kit

With a weight of approximately 2.5kg, M5 is MonsGeek first full-sized south-facing aluminum barebone kit.

M5 is equipped with 108 keys, making it a 100% barebone kit that boasts a multitude of function buttons and a numeric area. This feature-rich design enables users to type with convenience, making it suitable for gamers, office workers, programmers, and typists across various scenarios.

Disclaimer: we do NOT sell domestic non-VIA/QMK version kits on global store. All M series wired models you see are international versions exclusive.

Stabilizers

PCB Mount/Screw-in stabilizers tend to vibrate less. M5 full-sized keyboard barebone uses Akko screw-in stabilizers (un-assembled) with nylon housing in case users want to lubricate.

South-facing PCB

The south-facing PCB of the M5 avoids causing interference with Cherry profile keycaps, offering more compatibility and flexibility.

Customizable RGB

M5 custom aluminum kit offers approximately 18 preset backlight modes, which allow users to adjust the brightness and flowing speed levels. Moreover, it supports a wide range of RGB effects, with over 16.8 million colors available. Users can also install an upcoming JSON file to access even more lighting effects and configurations.

New Silver Accent

Adding a touch of class and elegance, we opted to add a beautiful golden accent so that no matter which way you look at it, you’ll fall in love over and over again.

N-Key Rollover

The N-Key Rollover technology allows all keys to work simultaneously and ensures every keystroke is recorded and prevents ghosting.

Engraved Back Design

M5 Aluminum Kit QMK version has adopted the new engraved back design with a re-sized sticker for aesthetics purposes.

QMK / VIA Support

MonsGeek M5 supports VIA for cross-platform (Linux/Mac/Windows) advanced keyboard configuration.

This feature is exclusively for international version of M5.

Need More Foam?

Monsgeek has developed its own budget custom material that performs equally as well as poron. Meanwhile, MonsGeek M5 custom kit comes with an additional sponage case foam to reduce case ping.

*Disclaimer: Using thicker foam may reduce flex, whether to include it or not is down to your personal preference.

PET Insulation Layer

A PET insulation layer has been added to the bottom case in order to prevent any short circuit issues. It’s rare for these issues to occur but we want to add extra protection.

Good keyboard, but please add proper manual and some tools for assembly

So, first - negatives. I am disappointed that you can only order 45 switches at a time, I now have whopping ~30 extra (I would be fine with 5 instead). Another small nitpick is absence of media control keycaps, like pause, next and previous. A link to Via would be nice, I spent an hour troubleshooting why my keyboard isn't in the Monsgeek app.
To more serious stuff, ordering items that are labeled "DE Stock" and then sent from China is very sketchy, please don't do this, I am not sure how legal it is. Speaking of possibly illegal things, please change your images to show how the actual DIY kit looks from the box, as on ALL images it shows having stabs installed, which is not the case. Also if possible in near future bundle up all the tracking codes, I had to juggle about 7 of them that led to confusion when in EU everything merged into 2 items.
And the most serious thing - no assembly manual. Not even a suggestion, not even online. I had to go through 3 streams to grasp it (and each did something wrong or didn't showed something), and still some things I had to guess and redo. This is my first keyboard, yes, but would be nice to have a guide for new people.
Would be nice to have a very basic screwdriver, there is a key in the box already. And a tube of small lube too, as I was surprised that stabs weren't assembled or lubed. They don't have to be expensive, just to make it possible to assemble without extra tools. Or at least please put a disclaimer or a note somewhere noticeable, I had to awkwardly pack keyboard back and wait for the rest of equipment to be acquired.
Lastly, for some reason my DIY kit wasn't tightened at the bottom, only at the top, which is just weird. At least do corners :)

Now, for the good things. I am pleased with build quality, everything works well and survived the assembly. I like the combed wire that allows the cable to extend if needed.
At first I was skeptical of wrist rest size, as it's not for a full keyboard, but now that I tried it works surprisingly well. I would still wish a full length version instead though. The keycaps are absolutely gorgeous. Lastly, the keyboard has almost no flex at all, and I thought my old Blackwidow was nicely build. Great job at one-upping Razer, not to mention customization options. I hope you also beat them in longevity. Love to see a 3D model of the plate, having such an option for customization is insanely awesome!

Very high premium quality

First ever mechanical keyboard, absolutely wonderful choice.
Very high quality and very good feel, thanks to the metal case and multiple foam layers for dampening the gasket mount and reducing PCB and other parts flexing (also used the included thin pads for the very easy force break mod).
Chose the Akko Cream Blue switches and I think I did well enough, despite not being used to the slightly more noisy sounds of tactile switches (coming from rubber domes).
The keycaps I had been gifted by some friends were the only slight problem, having some very tight tolerances that made the stabs get stuck with the switches' springs being on the lighter side.
Managed to fix that by filing some keycaps plastic and being mindful with the screw-ins.
Order and delivery was very quick and well packaged.
The support for QMK is infinitely appreciated, me being a code tinkerer who's always having fun with that sort of stuff.
Wholeheartedly recommend!

Awesome High Quality Full-Size Keyboard

I ordered this keyboard on 01/04/2024. The order took about 15 days to come. I just received it around 7:20pm SGT. Took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to get it up and running. I am running the Monsgeek M5 with Gateron Ink Black v2s. The linear switch makes the keyboard sound very thocky. Foam and everything else provided made the keyboard really sturdy. The metal chassis is what makes this purchase worthwhile. The QMK firmware as well as VIA software allows me the configure the keyboard quickly and efficiently with all sorts of macros and keybinds. all in all, an excellent well-built keyboard paired with linear switches.
